Many customers have noticed after moving to AutoCAD 2012 that the program will freeze after trying to do a Copy and Paste. The majority of the time this is happening in 2012 because of excessive layer filters in the file. Once these are cleaned out, Copy/Paste should work as expected.
What I have found to be the easiest way to do this is to type in LA to access the Layers dialog box. If the file contains layer filters, it will prompt you that this is the case and ask you to delete them. Choose the option to delete the filters, then make sure to SAVE the file, and you will then find that Copy/Paste works again. The file absolutely needs to be saved first after deleting the filters or it will not work.
A second option is to go to the FILTERS command. This will list all filters in the file. Delete them from the file, save it, and again Copy/Paste should then work.
